InstagramAuthOnTheBeach is a simple way to authorize with the Instagram API. Unlike the other repos out there, it actually works. Hopefully they’ll fix their code soon though.

  1. Pop a view controller that shows the Instagram login
  2. Get returned an access token
  3. Use the access token to access all the API access points instagram offers Instagram Developer Documentation

I would recommend Alamofire or something reasonable to access the API access points after you have the token.

Instagram APIs are simple enough so I did not want to create a whole large library of access point wrappers – this is only doing only the crufty stuff, which is getting the initial api token.

Why is that crufty? Because it’s displaying the Instagram website, and depending on their mood, the time of the day, the way you access the website, your account, and God knows what else, the web login might look and behave differently from day to day and user to user. InstagramAuthOnTheBeach wraps all that in a neat package so you get to spend more time on the beach!

let vc = InstagramAuthViewController()
vc.instagramClientId = "YOUR-CLIENT-ID-HERE"
vc.instagramRedirectURL = "YOUR-REDIRECT-URL-HERE"
vc.doneAction = { [weak self] success, token in

    // Do whatever you want with your shiny new token!

present(UINavigationController(rootViewController: vc), animated: true)

To run the example project, clone the repo, and run pod install from the Example directory first.

This is the Pod I would have liked to use. It authenticates with instagram reliably, all you have to do is show the included view controller and you get back an authentication token. As simple as possible, but not simpler. Yeah I wrote this on the beach.",
